SURFING

A premier surf destination for wave chasers, Fiji is an archipelago made up over 332 islands graced with some of the best breaks in the world. One of the highlights of Malolo Island is its close locale to the majestic Cloudbreak surf spot. The sheer volume of water hitting the reef earned this break, not only its name, but also its reputation for being one of the most challenging waves to ride in the world.

Surfers who don’t want to tackle cloudbreak can explore the other nearby breaks of Wilkes Passage, Desperations, and Restaurants.

Tropicsurf has got you covered when it comes to exploring the waves nearby Six Senses Fiji. A full-service team matches you with the best equipment, the right guides, the best teachers, and the best spots to nurture your unique needs.

Those looking to learn to surf, beginners and groms will also have a blast riding the pint-sized perfection of the Swimming Pools break.

SURROUNDING BREAKS

Cloudbreak. Regularly voted as one of the best and most challenging waves in the world, this is a bucket-list-worthy, world-class left reef pass not to be missed. This spot is located a short 20 minute boat ride away from Six Senses.

Namotu Lefts. One of the longest rides in the area, this one’s a little less fierce and more forgiving than its neighbouring Cloudbreak, and it’s a great wave for experienced surfers. A thrilling wave that goes on for 100 yards, you’ll find this a bit more mellow than Cloudbreak but just as much fun. It’s an exposed left-hander reef break that peels off powerful and hollow barrels consistently.

Restaurants: When the offshore winds from the east and south-east come in, this iconic left-hander break is one of the best you can find. It’s an exposed reef break where the waves are a little less gnarly than its big brother, Cloudbreak (from 3 to 8 ft) and the conditions need to be spot on – medium to high tide to avoid the reef below and a big swell, but when it’s on, it’s on. Breaking just off the resort island of Tavarua, it’s pretty spectacular wave with peeling barrels that’s mainly for the experts.

Desperations: Desperations serves up small but consistent waves day in, day out. It’s not a classic reef pass, but the incoming swells form fun peaks due to its unique shape and position. SW–SE swell and NE-NW wind make this a solid wave for intermediate surfers and above. Hit this one at high tide because it can get shallow.

Wilkes Passage: Ideal for any level of surfer, Wilkes is also located in the majestic Mamanuca Islands, just across the channel from Namotu. Rising quickly out of deep water at the end of the  Malolo Barrier Reef, it’s a cool, consistent right-hander and powerful, long wave that the crowds adore. Northeast winds and high tide see this wave soar.

Swimming Pools: The clear, bright blue water gives this break its name, and it’s the go-to surf for a fun, relaxed, ‘rippable’ ride. One of the closest spots to surf near Namotu Island Resort, it’s a popular destination for beginner surfers with plenty of SUPs and kiteboarding for the non-surfers.
