WEATHER – September to May – Warmer Months
SURF SEASON – Year Round (best January to July)
Northern New South Wales enjoys a sub-tropical climate throwing open its arms to 300 days of sunshine a year. During the summer months, the sea will never look so tempting as temperatures soar and humidity hits its annual high. February brings the most rainfall, and as New South Wales welcomes Autumn, the weather stays mild and the sea temperature still plenty warm enough to swim. Winters are mild on this part of the east coast, but the night-time chill can call for a sweater. Spring months turn tropical once more but can be extra breezy.
“Halcyon House restores all your sentimental dreams of fabled lost summers. There’s an edgy innocence in the postcard-pretty aesthetics, the vintage-inspired bicycles, and the cool Californian vibes by the pool.”

Consistently wowing the gourmet food crowd, Halcyon House’s signature restaurant, Paper Daisy, is all about celebrating fresh seasonal produce with a spin on simplicity. Winner of Best Hotel Breakfast, featured in Australia’s Top 100 Restaurants and stashing a Two Hats Award in the Good Food Guide.
The dining space is inspired by seaside moods with yawning white archways inviting in the sun, hues of sapphire blue, warm wicker and sparkling glass. Breakfast is all about coconut and chia pudding, kefir pancakes with macadamia cream, and smoked fish on rye with scrambled eggs. Lunch turns a touch decadent with Wagyu cooked in ash, fish grilled on a pandan leaf, and fabulous fig ice-cream. Dinners are a dream with sublime set menus for those seeking adventure and some of Australia’s best new world sommelier wines.
Halcyon House’s California inspired swimming pool forms the beating heart of the glorious boutique hotel. Blue and white candy stripes echo of European grace and the Hollywood golden era on the French Riviera, swaying palms and touches of teak bring it back to the tropics. Towels match the décor without skipping a beat, the beach is ever in sight, and yes, there’s a vintage gelato cart.
Halcyon is sure to already bring out your youthful glow, but for those who want to up the ante when it comes to the term ‘kick back and relax’, the spa is as glorious as you would expect. Prepare to be pampered to within an inch of your life amidst a colour scheme of pretty pastels that emanate the playful nature of spring. The unique dome steam room invites you to lose yourself in a cloud of mist, beautifully appointed treatment spaces will bring you back to self with bespoke body therapies, healing massages, spa rituals, and sensory journeys.
While Little Wayfarers will adore the summer vibes at Halcyon House, the team have put efforts in place to ensure that adults get more than their fair share of fun. A local babysitting service is held in high esteem so that parents get plenty of space to breathe in the blue, surf, explore, and linger over luscious dinners and hand-crafted drinks with their loved one.
The collection of rooms and suites at Halcyon House wouldn’t look out of place in the centre fold of Conde Nast’s World of Interiors. There are 21 sublime spaces in total, most with views of the shimmering pool and all resplendent in commitment to detail. Bright artistic inspired wallpaper, ocean shades, bohemian balance, and antique touches hem together an environment you won’t want to leave. Thematic designs capture the whimsical nature of travelling, wave seeking, soul searching, and finally coming home to a heart-nurturing space.
Ground floor ‘Classic’ rooms enjoy direct access to the pool and the beach beyond.
Each room comes individually designed and the classic spaces capture that edge between refined and cool. Unique upholstered wallpapers bring out flora blooms, king beds are big enough to make you swoon, and in just a few steps you can be barefoot in your own private courtyard with dazzling green manicured lawn. Bathrooms are equally luxurious with gleaming marble features and intricate handmade floor tiles.
For those who want glimpses of the ocean, a breezy balcony and charmed colour schemes to lift their mood – the superior room brings that blissfully boutique joy. Textiles are both soft and bold and stand out beautifully when set against the singing brass and timber features and floor. A complimentary mini bar makes it easy to sink into a celebratory mood during sunset. An Apple TV also ensures that you don’t need to skip out on your fave boxset binges in this home away from home.
Wayfarers who cannot be a second without the sea will fall hard for the sea song that drifts in to the Ocean Deluxe room. Views of blue, large balconies, that much loved complimentary mini-bar and chic features like handpicked prints, vintage finds, character bright textiles and other such treasures are layered lovingly in a way that brings out cool kitsch without compromising an inch of sophistication.
Inspired by the Ocean Deluxe and then some, the Ocean Superior takes seaside living up a few notches. The Ocean Superior invites utter delight whether you are cat napping on the oversized king bed after a few too many lunch-time cocktails, sipping fresh coffee on your private balcony, or enjoying the cool touch of marble and tile in the bathroom adorned with English tapware.
At twice the size of the other rooms, the Master Suite is as cool and deliciously fresh as a cucumber. Expansive timber floors are highlighted by upholstered walls, plush fabrics, and gorgeous hand-picked art pieces. A spacious lounge area creates room for indulging in the complimentary mini-bar, a balcony with sink down loungers lets you lap up that Aussie sun in perfect privacy, and ocean views are right there as soon as you open your eyes and step outside. In the bathroom, you can still enjoy the English riviera tapware, the hand-cut tiles, and a deep soaking tub for rest and relaxation.
Two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a perfectly orchestrated 170 sqm of space, the Halcyon Suite is as heavenly as this surf haven comes. In your own private penthouse complex, you can spread out in multiple spaces – long mornings in the lounge, bespoke breakfasts or balmy suppers in the dining room, and well-tailored rooms for dreamy uninterrupted sleeps that last as long as you need them. A private balcony easily moves indoor living into the outdoors, and as to be expected the interior collection is bright, lush and designed to make you feel vibrantly at ease with each passing moment.

Surrounding Sights – Location, location, location – Halcyon House is more than just a pretty face. Cabarita Beach is one of the best surf spots along this stretch of golden coast, but even for those not seeking saltwater dreams – you will find endless pleasures. The beauty of Byron Bay, electic Brunswick Heads, coastal walks along Norries Headland, and inland to the ripe banana plantations and hobby farms of Murwillumbah – the scope for adventure is endless.
Australia is one of the homelands of surf culture and nowhere captures this better than Cabarita Beach. Off the beaten track enough to not suffer the same level of crowds like other Aussie hot-spots but consistent and firing enough to be a competition hot-spot, you can step outside the door of Halcyon and be in a surfer’s paradise.
From the surf to the sky, Halcyon House know how to create space for experiential living. Drift away above the lush landscape of New South Wales on a hot air balloon ride. Turn your head for perfect panoramas that reach out across the crashing coastline and the volcanic caldera of Mt Warning.
Gallop into pastures unknown on the back of your own trusty steed with a horse-riding adventure arranged by the team at Halcyon House. Thundering across the sands of Byron Beach where the white foamed surf gallops beside you is an immersive experience in what it means to be wild and free.
If you prefer your board on still waters rather than the dance of waves, then stand up paddle boarding is an amazing addition to your morning meditation. The surrounding waterways invite enticing meandering journeys down the verdant rainforest banks and mangroves that adorn the sidelines of Cudgen Creek.
A vacation at Halcyon House will have you ‘smack-bang’ in one of Australia’s surfing hot-spots with the Gold Coasts iconic beach breaks only 20 minutes north, Cabarita Point directly out the front, and the likes of ‘The Pass’ down at Byron Bay only a 40 minute drive away – you will be spoil for choice.
Right outside your door, Cabarita Beach is the perfect playground for surfers seeking consistent swell. Cabarita is considered one of the best swell magnets along this stretch of the coast. She often comes with a playful mood and great for all levels of surfers.
Depending on the conditions and swell, you’ll be able to take your pick between fun ‘beachies’ straight out the front or head further up the point (right-hander) – if the northerly trade winds are blowing during summer, head over to the southern side of the headland where you will score some protected waves up in the corner.
Gold Coast: Home to the 8th World Surfing Reserve this area is a surfing destination unto itself. Choose from an array of world-class breaks, from the southern points at Snapper Rocks, Kirra, Rainbow Beach and Duranbah. It’s not hard to see why some of the world’s best surfers call this patch of paradise home.
Byron Bay: A mecca for surfers, sunny Byron Bay has waves galore. Some of the best are The Pass, Wategoes, Tallows and The Wreck.
