Sacred Space – The tale of Sinalei is long, lustrous and full of heartbreak, humble beginnings, and heavenly touches. The land on which Sinalei stands was once a favored site for warriors to come and rest. Since then the dream of Sinalei evolved from a smattering of shacks to stunning abodes, all built and nurtured by the people of the local village – those who withstood Tsunamis and tragedy to make it happen. Without a doubt – Sinalei is sacred space.
Traditional Customs – The weekly Fia Fia show is a must for those who want to lose themselves in the heat and magic of local Samoan culture. Age old recipes are ripe for feasting, customary song and dance lilts and lifts away into the evening, and throughout your stay you can up the ante with Samoan cooking, storytelling, and weaving.
Scenic Surf – Surfing Samoa should certainly be a bucket list wonder for those who go weak at the knees for undiscovered spots, impeccably clean swells, and crowd free waters. From deserted island breaks to fast rising stars on the surf radar, now is the time to venture south of the Equator – before the secret is out.
Eco Energy – Its not just the eco-conscious approach that means Sinalei can stand up and be counted when it comes to eco efforts but also their attention to community detail. Along with working to leave very little of a carbon footprint, the resort actively supports a plethora of local projects. From the village hospital to arts and sewing lessons, Sinalei lives and breathes sustainability for both the land and the people.
A two-part cooking experience sees ‘would be chefs’ hitting the local village plantations and gardens to gather the freshest island ingredients to take back to the kitchen. After a quick lagoon dip, its time to learn how to whip up a unique Samoan feast fit for kings. Finish the afternoon with a celebratory sundowner with views out over the water.
Visit one of Samoa’s oldest villages to take a lesser known peek into the traditional Samoan Way. Be welcomed in a customary manner by the chief, learn the art of spear throwing, and duck into the local primary school to meet the younger generation who will be carrying these ancient traditions to adulthood. Finish up with a heart clenching knife throwing show.
The unchartered waters of Samoa are ripe for casting your line and catching the finest fish in the world. From Yellowfin Tuna to magic Mahi Mahi, and Marlin as large as the sky, those who adore the art of big game fishing are sure to be in their element.
Lava cliffs, virginal jungle, natural springs, and healing pools – the island on which Sinalei sits is a haven for those who want to be enchanted by untamed nature once more. Explore the giant Ma trees, watch the ocean roil and thunder through blowholes, and duck into century-old secret caves.
Despite being a rising star, Samoa still remains a little off the beaten track when it comes to the surf heavyweight crowds. These parts offer endless scope for discovery; with a plethora of surf breaks nearby. With local surf guiding partners Manoa Tours, just down the road and operating both land and boat transfers daily, you are guaranteed to be in the line-up first and surfing the best waves the region has to offer.
Samoa is known for its powerful surf and shallow reefs and therefore recommended to competent surfers. Samoa is fortunate to have year-round surf, with two distinct seasons. During the dry season (May to September) you can expect heavy consistent swells and seasonal southeast trade winds, which can affect some surround breaks.
During February to April and October will see smaller swells with calmer winds and often-glassy conditions.
